Pattaya lies on the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand, approximately 140 kms from Bangkok. This resort city is divided into four major zones: North Pattaya, Central Pattaya, South Pattaya and Jomtien.
Pattaya has three major roads running parallel to each other. The Beach Road runs along the beachfront one-way from north to south. Pattaya 2 Road is about 100 meters away, partly one-way south to north and partly two-way. Sukhumvit Road is a continuation of the main highway from Bangkok. The major roads are linked by narrow lanes. Pattaya 2 Road continues through South Pattaya, over the headland where the Royal Cliff Hotels Group and PEACH are located, and on to Jomtien Beach. On the other side of Sukhumvit Road are several country clubs, golf courses and typical rural villages, as well as the railway from Bangkok.
Pattaya’s public transport is provided by customized pickup trucks, known as song taew, with 2 rows on seats in the back for 8-10 passengers. If not occupied, they can also be hired as private taxis. Alternatively, air-conditioned taxis are everywhere and easy to hail.
Pattaya is a pleasant 90-minute drive from Bangkok along the Bangkok Na-Trat Highway or Bangkok-Cholburi Motorway. The Royal Cliff Hotels Group is located on the headland at the southern end of Pattaya Bay.
Directions From Bangkok To Pattaya:
- Take the Bangna-Trat Highway to Cholburi (Highway 34, then Highway 3).
- Or take the Bangkok-Cholburi Motorway (Highway 7 onto Highway 3).
- At the intersection after South Pattaya, turn right onto Thep Prasit Road.
- Turn right at the end of Thep Prasit Road.
- Follow the road to the top of the hill and turn left into Phra Tamnuk at the police booth.
- Follow the Royal Cliff Hotels Group signpost all the way to the resort.
Minibus and taxi services run from Pattaya hotels to Bangkok and nearby tourist destinations such as Rayong and the boat piers for the islands of Samet and Chang.
Trains depart Bangkok’s Hualumpong Station for Pattaya daily. No advance ticketing is available, so passengers who wish to travel to/from Pattaya by train have to purchase tickets at the station on the travel dates.
Air-conditioned buses and coaches leave from the Eastern Bus Terminal (next to BTS Ekamai station) and the Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal on Kamphaeng Phet Road for the two-and-a-half-hour journey to Pattaya. Services run from early morning and until late. Fares are inexpensive. A daily bus service also operates from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport to Pattaya. For coach transfers, the passenger loading zone is located at the East Entrance of PEACH for the convenience of delegates.
Buses link to all towns along the Eastern Seaboard and popular destinations such as Ban Phe (for Samet island), Chantaburi and Trat (for Chang island). These regional bus routes usually bypass Pattaya’s central area, meaning visitors have to get on and off at bus stops along the main Sukhumvit Road.
International passengers bound for Pattaya fly into Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport, where they can catch bus or taxi connections for the 70-minute commute to Pattaya.
U–Tapao Pattaya International Airport is located 30 kms south-east of the city. Bangkok Airways operates daily flights from here to the southern islands of Samui and Phuket. U-Tapao is also used for private and chartered flights. The Thai government recently approved a budget to upgrade the airport’s facilities, including improved taxiways, fuel depots, firefighting systems, X-ray machines, cargo units and a new passenger terminal capable of handling 1,500 passengers per hour.
Helicopter transfers are available at the resort, with two fully licensed helicopter pads located at PEACH and Royal Cliff Grand Hotel and Spa. Delegates wishing to arrive by helicopter are asked to advise us in advance of their arrival and departure times.
